At Attention with Chuck Sourbeer: Serving Our Guests and Communities for Nearly 15 Years

Go to previous page

As IHG® Army Hotels enters 2024, we’ll soon be celebrating an important milestone: 15 years of service. It’s been an honor to provide an excellent stay experience  to all our guests, especially to those in the military and their families. We’re proud to serve them throughout their military careers and even provide many with career opportunities when they return to civilian life. Our commitment to service doesn’t end there. This past year has given us many wonderful opportunities to help our military communities.

Giving for Good Month

September is always a special time for IHG Army Hotels. It’s our Giving for Good month, when we join thousands of IHG colleagues around the world in helping communities through service projects of all kinds. Here are just a few of the many ways our hotels gave back not just this past month, but throughout this year:

IHG Army Hotels Corporate Team
Cleaned the gym, repaired resident lockers and built a new shed for Covenant House Atlanta, a shelter for homeless youth ages 18-26.

Fort Eisenhower, GA
Donated personal care items, snacks and cleaning supplies for Safe Homes Augusta, a shelter for victims of abuse.

Fort Drum, NY
Packed food items and delivered them for Feed Our Vets, a pantry in Watertown, NY.

Fort Gregg-Adams, VA
Collected and delivered toiletries and socks to residents of an assisted living facility.

Fort Moore, GA
Donated gently used blankets to a local women’s shelter in Columbus, GA.

Joint Base San Antonio, TX
Collected and packaged diapers as well as other baby products for the Texas Diaper Bank.

Fort Sill, OK
Cleaned up parks and playgrounds located on post.

Yuma Proving Ground, AZ
Delivered food and toiletry items for YPG Elementary School James D. Price, Right Turn for Yuma Veterans and Crossroads Mission.

IHG Army Hotels
Our hotels met a new goal of $200,000 raised for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which helps provide homes for veterans, Gold Star families, and the families of fallen first responders. Corporate colleagues and the highest hotel team fundraisers by region participated in the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in New York City on September 24th.

Celebrate Service Week

September was also the month when we  take the time to recognize hotel colleagues across the IHG Hotels & Resorts family. . In gratitude for their excellent service, our team members were treated to several events from September 11 – 15 in what we call Celebrate Service Week. This year’s theme was “Honoring Hospitality Heroes” and included luncheons, picnics, bowling, carnival-style games and other fun outings. Representatives from the corporate offices also stopped by to join in the fun.

Teen Academy 2023

A look back at our annual community service accomplishments would be incomplete without mentioning our continued investment in the next generation. Our 2023 Teen Academy

Summer program was a great success, with nearly 100 teens learning skills to give them a head start in the hospitality industry. In addition to their paid internships, these students participated in several on-post service projects that included fundraisers and collections for food banks, animal shelters and more.

The Year Ahead

Since IHG Army Hotels began in 2009, we’ve been focused on renovating outdated facilities and building new properties to provide the best experience possible for our guests. We’re excited to announce that a new Candlewood Suites is coming to Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg), NC, with groundbreaking scheduled for November.

Here’s to another great year together. We’re looking forward to all the ways we can serve our guests and our communities in 2024.

Thank you for your loyalty.
