Celebrating National Hire a Veteran Day the IHG® Army Hotels Way.

National Hire a Veteran Day is a special holiday for our IHG® Army Hotels team.  Since 2009, we have been fortunate enough to interact with service members, veterans, and their families every day.  We have a unique appreciation for the dedication, professionalism, and sacrifice that comes with service to our country.  We recognize and celebrate the value gained and the lessons and skills learned in the military.  Veterans are a major asset to the civilian workforce, and we love encouraging veterans to join our ranks.

National Hire a Veteran Day

Veterans represent a select group of people, making up less than 10% of the U.S. population.  Military service is a rewarding, but challenging, career path that most Americans choose not to take.  When many people leave the armed forces and become veterans, they face numerous challenges.  One of the most common challenges is finding employment as a member of the civilian workforce.

Since 2017, July 25th has been celebrated as National Hire a Veteran Day.  The day serves as a reminder for employers to consider the many benefits of adding veterans to their workforce.  Veterans are highly trained and exceptionally qualified individuals.  Their experiences are often difficult and expensive to find in civilians.

Service members receive specialized training in many fields that quickly transfer to work outside of the military.  These skills include information technology, hospitality, management, leadership, security, engineering, marketing, sales, skilled trades, and human resources.

Through collectively recognizing the experiences and talents of veterans, employers can strengthen their organizations.  National Hire a Veteran Day serves as a reminder that one of the best ways to thank a veteran is to hire a veteran.

Veterans and IHG® Army Hotels

At IHG® Army Hotels, we have a rich history of hiring veterans.  Service members understand better than anyone else what it means to serve.  They are able to connect with our guests on a more personal level.

It is our goal to make our facilities a haven for all of our guests.  We know the stress and hardship that can come with life in the military.  Soldiers and their families operate in a high-pressure environment.  Their day is more often than not comprised of tasks that push the physical and mental limits of each service member.  Families deal with separation, frequent moves, and emotional stress.

We want our facilities to represent more than just a bed to sleep in.  We provide a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our guests.  We serve those who serve.  We have created an environment where many veterans feel they can continue their service.

When a service member leaves the military, they often feel a desire to continue the mission.  The light inside to help others is not extinguished when the uniform is taken off for the last time.  We are honored that so many veterans find a place within our team to continue their service.

Many of our team members have proudly served in the military and worn a military uniform.  We see the same pride these men and women had in the military grow stronger as they serve our guests.

Winning Ways

All of the armed services have core values to guide both the individual and the unit.  They provide a common structure that is foundational to all actions taken by Airmen, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers.   At IHG® Army Hotels, we call our core values the Winning Ways. We know that service is about others, and the Winning Ways help to keep our focus on this.  Our Winning Ways are aim higher, show we care, celebrate difference, do the right thing, and work better together. By holding these values close to our hearts and relying on them to guide our daily actions, we are better caretakers of our valued guests.

When we aim high, we aim to be acknowledged industry leaders, and have built a team of talented people who have a will to be the best. We strive for success and value individuals who are always looking for better ways to do things.

Showing we care represents how we want to be a company that understands people’s needs better than anyone else in our industry.  This means being sensitive to others, noticing the things that matter, and taking responsibility for getting things right.

In celebrating difference, we believe it is the knowledge of our people that brings our brands to life. We do not impose a rigid, uniform view of the world. Our global strength comes from celebrating local differences, while knowing that some things should be the same.

Doing the right thing is where we aim to do what we believe is right and have the courage and conviction to put it into practice. We are honest and straightforward and see our decisions through.

Finally, working better together helps us to remember we are at our best when we collaborate to form a powerful team. We listen to each other and combine our expertise to create a strong, focused, supportive, and trusted team of people.

The mission continues.

Although we care about hiring veterans every day of the year,  July 25th reminds us to be especially thankful to the veterans on our team and gives pause to thank those who have served through their employment.  It also reminds us of our mantra; we serve.

For those leaving the military and becoming veterans, we hope you will consider joining our team.  We strive to go beyond what is expected of us and answer only to our personal best.

We are proud of our Winning Ways and believe veterans can relate to them on a different level.  The privilege to serve the service member is a mission that will never end.  We encourage transitioning services members and veterans to look at IHG® Army Hotels as their next post.  Help us continue to build on a legacy of excellence and, as always, thank you for your service.
