Visiting West Point soon? Be sure to book your stay at IHG® Army Hotels Building 109/Beat Navy House, Historia Collection™ -- a historic house with an unbeatable name.
Built in 1875, this meticulously maintained and preserved home merges its beautiful and original features with modern conveniences, and its prime location puts you in the middle of the West Point action.
Where history meets modern convenience
Sitting in a scenic spot above the Hudson River in West Point, the Beat Navy House, a Historia Collection hotel, provides comfort and convenience. The property is just down the road from the West Point residences for the Superintendent, Commandant and Dean of Cadets.
Nearly 150 years old, the Beat Navy House, has preserved many of its original features, including the fireplaces situated in the front parlors, crown molding, balustrades, and hardwood floors. But the beauty and uniqueness of those details is balanced by modern amenities, such as high-speed internet, guest laundry facilities, and a fitness center. The community kitchen offers complimentary made-to-order hot breakfast daily. In 2016, it became part of our Historia Collection -- select IHG Army Hotels buildings chosen for their historical significance to the Army, the post and the nation.
Experience West Point Military Academy
West Point is the country’s longest continuously operating military installation, and George Washington was quick to recognize the location’s significance along the Hudson River. The military academy attracts visiting cadets, returning alumni, and plenty of guests who value the area’s deep roots in building our nation.
Start at the West Point Visitors Center, where you can view videos and exhibits that provide an overview of the area. Learn about cadet life and West Point’s extensive history. Then check out the Army West Point Gift Shop.
Next, head to the West Point Museum where you’ll be transported back to West Point’s early days during the Revolutionary War. This is the country’s oldest federal museum, having publicly displayed a selection of West Point’s more than 60,000 army artifacts for more than 150 years. Exhibits feature pieces from the academy, the U.S. Army, and the Profession of Arms. The museum displays an impressive selection of small and large weaponry, some of which date back to the Stone Age, and depending on what time of year you visit, you can tour the meticulously restored Fort Putnam.
The Visitor’s Center is also a great resource for any West Point first timers. The West Point Story guided tour provides a detailed history of West Point’s important start during the American Revolution through its modern use as a premier military academy. This family-operated tour group takes you on a journey through West Point history, stopping at Trophy Point, Battle Monument, the Plain, and the Cadet Chapel.
If time permits, take the History and Tradition Cemetery Tour, which adds West Point Cemetery and Old Cadet Chapel to your itinerary.

The site includes 1,300 items from Washington’s headquarters. While on property, you can also tour the Tower of Victory and enjoy recently upgraded grounds and pathways.
Explore the beauty of the Hudson Valley
The prestigious military academy is West Point’s claim to fame, but the Hudson Valley is an attractive space to visit in its own right.
Situated along the west bank of the Hudson River, Bear Mountain State Park provides plenty of outdoor activities. Check out miles of biking and hiking trails, camp overnight, rent a boat or enjoy some time fishing during your visit. Additionally, the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve offers 70 miles of hiking trails that range in difficulty from novice to advanced. The mostly undeveloped preserve is an excellent place to bird watch, and the Bird Conservation Areas have led to sightings of Cerulean Warblers, Peregrine Falcons, and Bald Eagles.
End your visit with a good meal
After plenty of activity, you’ll be ready for a delicious dinner. Enjoy a quality dining experience at MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant located in the historic Thayer Hotel at West Point— offering an award-winning Sunday brunch, hand-cut steaks, and so much more.
