Fisher Houses filled with love.

Go to previous page

Have you seen those big, beautiful houses on Fort and wondered what they were or who might live there? The rooms inside are filled with love, and too often, stress from military members and their families who are receiving medical treatment. They are able to receive free accommodations, and so much more, thanks to Fisher House.

The Fisher House Foundation is a nationwide nonprofit supplying a home-away-from-home to military members and their families receiving medical attention at nearby military treatment facilities and VA medical centers. We don’t use the term ‘home’ lightly here. The Fisher Houses are more than just a place to lay your head. Supported strictly by donations, not only do visitors have private rooms and baths, but toiletries are on hand, ready-to-prepare food is in the kitchen, and detergent and bleach are available in laundry facilities, all at no cost to guests. Not to mention the ability to enjoy common areas of the house, which allows for interactions and support among families who oftentimes develop bonds that cannot be broken.

The Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center Fisher House on Fort Gordon opened in April 1993 and has welcomed 4,200 families. Manager, Francisco Cruz, says “the Fisher House environment is a story of love.” This love story wouldn’t be possible without the help of donors and volunteers who support the nonprofit.

IHG® Army Hotels and Lendlease have been actively raising funds to benefit Fisher Houses across the country since 2009. As of the end of January, over $706k donations have been contributed from the two PAL program members.
