It’s true—military travel is unlike any other. Whether traveling solo or with a family, it can be unexpected, stressful, and frequent. Service members might have to stay at dozens of hotels in a year.

That is why our colleagues work above and beyond to serve their guests. Team members are made up of veterans and military families who understand and respect these complex travel situations. Our strict brand standards help ensure that our guests receive the best experience possible when visiting IHG Army Hotels.

Fantastic facilities

When a Major General stays in more than 50 hotel rooms a year, how do you make a stay at an IHG Army Hotels property feel like home?

Convenience and comfort matter, and we work hard to provide constant upgrades, renovations, and fresh amenities. One example is IHG Army Hotels Main Lodge and Building 4950 on Fort Stewart, which recently underwent a $3.2 million renovation budget to update its facilities, furnishings, bathrooms, electronics, and more.

We also welcomed our 16th Candlewood Suites® on Aberdeen Proving Ground in November of 2022. The newly constructed hotel features 69 suites with full kitchens, uniquely designed for military guests and their families.

Additionally, many of our hotels now offer IHG Studio, a service that allows guests to browse hotel information and services on their TVs, with the option to make room requests. Guests also can connect to their devices to stream their favorite movies and shows.

All of our hotels offer complimentary hot breakfast, free guest laundry, pet-friendly rooms, internet, weekly social events, and more. IHG One Rewards members earn valuable points for all their stays, which they can redeem for reward nights at more than 6,000 off-post IHG Hotels & Resorts worldwide.

“It feels like coming home”

Over the past year, many guests have shared their praises for our properties. One guest who stayed at the Candlewood Suites on Fort Drum wrote that the hotel had the “best and most equipped rooms I've stayed in on a military base in recent memory.” They also appreciated the efforts made for social activities, having an opportunity to participate in Taco Bar night and contribute to a fundraiser to benefit Stephen Siller’s Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

“Feels like home” is one of the highest compliments an IHG Army Hotels property can receive. Many guest reviews mention that outstanding service during their stays provided an extra level of comfort. At IHG Army Hotels Foulois House, a Historia CollectionTM hotel on Joint Base San Antonio, one guest commented, “It is charming, warm and welcoming… It feels like coming home. It will always be our first choice in San Antonio!” Another guest shared that the maintenance, staff, location, and attention to detail all were exceptional.

Special touches make a stay memorable. While staying at IHG Army Hotels Buildings 366 & 367 on Presidio of Monterey, one guest was pleasantly surprised with yellow roses and a welcome card in their room. They shared with staff how impressed the family was with the spotless hotel, delicious breakfast, and added treats.

This same team also knew that another guest was in town to celebrate a special occasion, so they went above and beyond to make it memorable. “The champagne and cheese tray found in the room after my induction was a beautiful surprise and a way to toast the ceremony we had just attended. You even thought to have non-alcoholic beverages for our grandchildren,” the guest commented. “I have to add that there was a jar of quince paste, and it brought back such wonderful memories for me, my wife, and daughter of eating my mother-in-law’s quince jam. We hope to return to the Monterey area and will always try to stay with you if space is available.”

Through upgrades, renovations, new services, and special touches, we strive to provide a unique space for guests. But what truly sets our hotels apart is the understanding, care, and respect shown by our colleagues.

Unmatched service

Military life is not always easily understood. It takes a special person to put their country first and answer the call to serve. Thankfully, many of our colleagues have firsthand experience with military life. They empathize with the needs and emotions of guests, offering special care and compassion. Guests frequently share that staff go above and beyond to create an exceptional stay and enjoyable experience.

In one instance, a guest ran out of gas and asked the front desk to arrange shuttle service so he could purchase a gas can. The front desk did even better, providing the guest with a full gas can and eliminating the hassle of an additional trip. The guest was so appreciative, he left a large enough tip to treat the front desk team to lunch.

Frequent hotel stays can be stressful. On top of that, any kind of miscommunication or confusion with bookings can add an extra layer of stress. Thankfully, there are many stories of staff rising to the occasion and working quickly with guests to resolve problems. Colleagues have worked diligently to book and accommodate distinguished guests or make special arrangements despite high occupancy.

One guest was particularly impressed. A miscommunication left a large group of people without rooms during the annual Historic Military Vehicle Rally (HMVR) at Fort Hood. On top of other tasks and responsibilities, the front desk team managed to pull together a block of rooms for all the event participants. The guest said that “the interactions with staff were nothing but positive.”

We strive to provide a true sense of community for our guests. Our hotel teams across the country pride themselves on serving those who serve our country. Choose to stay at IHG Army Hotels and discover for yourself how we set ourselves apart.
