The team at IHG® Army Hotels strive to make our guests’ stay as pleasant as possible, but it’s true: there is no place like home!
One of our favorite things to do is deliver care packages to our guests to make home seem closer than ever.
Think of Everyday Essentials
Unlike sending a care package to a deployed soldier, on-post assignments often mean access to the same types of daily supplies you can find at home. The key to sending a great package to someone on post is keeping it focused. This may cause your on-post care package to be relatively small (but still abundantly thoughtful) and include mementos full of familiar sights and smells that make your loved one feel closer to home.
This might include:
- A small box of special laundry detergent or fabric softener sheets.
- Homemade snacks or treats – or store-bought snacks that may not be available on-post.
- Specialty brand shampoo or other toiletries. Most bases have stores where you can get many everyday essentials, but it’s nice to be able to use the same products you’re used to at home.
- A small bottle of essential oil or a pillowcase spritzed with products used at home, both of which can relieve stress and make it easier to get complete, restful sleep.
The Digital Care Package
IHG® Army Hotels is proud to offer Wi-Fi access and upgraded electronic devices. Sometimes a great care package doesn’t have to be a ‘package’ at all:
- Put together a movie watch-list on your Netflix or Hulu accounts. Then send a casting device they can plug into the HDMI port of the TV in their room.
- Create a YouTube playlist of fun videos or music to share back and forth.
- Create a shared Google drive that you can both upload photos to – keep up with family and base life at the same time!
- Virtual book club: Forward an e-book or podcast subscription.
- Plan a surprise day out: Research fun activities offered on base that your loved one may not know about & surprise them with an itinerary. You can check with your local Army MWR to find a complete list of what each post has to offer.
We’ll do our best to make sure your loved one staying on post feel at home, but every gift from friends and family members, no matter how small, counts!
