Last year, IHG® Army Hotels and Lendlease, under the Privatization of Army Lodging (PAL) program, celebrated the grand opening of the first phase of the Candlewood Suites® on Fort Jackson. On June 22, 2021, it was announced that the both buildings 10046 and 10050 had been fully completed, marking the fourteenth and fifteenth Candlewood Suites hotels in the PAL portfolio.
Both the East and West buildings of the hotel were constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT), which offers maximized strength and durability with added sustainability and conservation benefits; cross-laminated timber is a wood panel created from several layers of dried boards that are stacked, glued and pressed on top of one another. Strong enough to hold up to natural disasters and seismic events, this material produces 13.2% less carbon emissions than concrete. Lendlease and IHG Army Hotels were the first to build a hotel out of CLT in the U.S., and the Candlewood Suites on Fort Jackson marks their fifth.
To accommodate the unique needs of today's military travelers, the Candlewood Suites hotels include a variety of rooms with kitchenettes and amenities such as complimentary breakfast, laundry facilities, business center, fitness center, a swimming pool, picnic gazebo, Distinguished Visitors Quarters lounge, and are pet friendly.
"Military travel did not stop during the pandemic, and neither did we – the Fort Jackson East Building is the third new building we have opened over the last 18 months. This building, paired with the passion of the colleagues within, will provide our military travelers with the facility and service they deserve, and we look forward to sharing our brand of True Hospitality with all guests visiting Fort Jackson.”
- Chuck Sourbeer, Head of Operations for IHG Army Hotels
