Our colleagues at IHG® Army Hotels love any chance to celebrate holidays with our special guests. Every March 17 brings us together for one of those celebrations, St. Patrick's Day! Many cities around the country have events planned, from parades to pub crawls. If you plan to stay at one of our properties around St. Patrick's Day, you will surely find plenty of events in the area.
To help you plan your day, we'll highlight a few of the amazing St. Patrick's Day events happening near our hotels. But first, here’s a little history about St. Patrick's Day.
The History of St. Patrick’s Day in the United States
The holiday that finds us all wearing green is always celebrated on March 17 and is meant to honor St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick was a real person, but some of the stories about him are more myth than fact. For example, many people have heard that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland. The truth is that snakes have never been native to the island.
In the United States, St. Patrick's Day has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, music, dancing, and, of course, wearing green. Cities around the country, like New York, Chicago, and Boston, have large celebrations each year, but there are many places with notable celebrations across the country.
