Whether you’re looking to close out the autumn season with a few more camping trips or hikes, or you’re looking ahead to winter weather so you can hit the slopes, our Candlewood Suites® on Fort Carson in beautiful Colorado is perfectly located to accommodate your outdoor or indoor adventure needs!
We’ve previously covered some of the best natural rock formations and skiing resorts to visit within 3 hours of Fort Carson, but we want to share even more of the great local options that you can explore.
Thunder Alley Bowling
There’s no better activity than bowling when it’s a bit too cold for a hike, but not snowy enough to ski. With 36 lanes, Thunder Alley has plenty of space for you and your family and is located conveniently on-post.
They’re open Wednesday-Sunday or you can book them for a private event.
Turkey Trot Prediction Run
Do you know how fast you can run a 5k? For this November 5th event, you don’t have to be the fastest to win, you just have to be the closest to your predicted time! When you register, you’ll guess your final 5k time and the runner closest to their prediction wins!
Registration is free and is open from October 1-November 3.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
A great option for the whole family, this zoo was named the third best in America and has the largest giraffe herd in the United States. Enjoy up-close views of Nile hippos and African penguins, or take the chair lift for spectacular views of Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado Springs and the Eastern Plains.
Advance tickets are required, so be sure to plan this one ahead of time!
There is plenty to do on and around post and our team at Candlewood Suites would be happy to assist you with anything you need during your visit. And if you’re still planning on skiing or any other outdoor activity, don’t miss out on Mountain Post Outfitters at Fort Carson’s Outdoor Recreation Complex. Rates start at just $36 per person for a weekend or $120 for a week for both skiing or snowboarding. We can’t wait to see you on-post!
