Planning a vacation in Texas? With so many cities and attractions, it might be a bit overwhelming. Here are some great options to get you started:
Dallas
Dallas has plenty of options to explore downtown. For a bit of culture, head to The Arts District and check out the Dallas Museum of Arts and the Nasher Sculpture Center. Head to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science for gigantic dinosaur skeletons, rare fossils, and other interactive exhibits. And a visit to downtown Dallas wouldn’t be complete without going up Reunion Tower. Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city 470 feet up on the 360-degree observation deck.
El Paso
Stay at the Holiday Inn Express® Guesthouse on Fort Bliss when you’re visiting El Paso. It’s located near the heart of the city and close to attractions rich in history. Follow the El Paso Historic Mission Trail and explore its famous adobe churches dating back hundreds of years. For some military history, The Buffalo Soldier Memorial honors the four regiments of African American soldiers who served on the frontier after the end of the Civil War. The memorial is located next to Concordia Cemetery, where the remains of over 40 Buffalo Soldiers are buried. And for a taste of El Paso’s Wild West past, check out the jail that became famous after a visit from the infamous Billy the Kid. According to legend, it’s the only jail he broke into—to help his friend escape.
Austin
For comfort and convenience when visiting Austin, stay at the Holiday Inn Express Keith Ware Hall on Fort Hood. Austin is a vibrant city with all kinds of things to do downtown. Enjoy great views of the city along the Boardwalk over Lady Bird Lake. Or cool off in Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park. Austin is of course known for its street art, live music, and barbecue. Sixth Street is a great intro to Austin that bustles with all kinds of bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
Corpus Christi
If you’re all about the beach, then Corpus Christi is the destination for you. There are many beaches available, whether you want to surf, camp, or just relax by calm waters. Many beaches are also dog-friendly. Check out www.visitcorpuschristi.com/beaches/faqs to determine which part of the shore is right for you.
San Antonio
Stay at one of the IHG® Army Hotels on Joint Base San Antonio to enjoy easy access to the area’s fascinating history and charming culture. The Alamo is a must-see attraction, full of history and culture. Visit the Alamo Church, the site’s most recognizable structure, which initially operated as a Spanish mission church and still shows scars from the Battle of the Alamo.
Also be sure to tour the Spanish Governor’s Palace and grab tickets for a show at the Aztec Theatre, a nearly century-old intimate Meso-American structure in the heart of downtown.
Any trip to San Antonio must also include the River Walk and a visit to the many bars and restaurants that line each side of it.
From exciting urban centers, rugged historic sites, and breathtaking natural beauty, Texas has something for everyone. Enjoy your trip to the Lone Star State and we hope to see you soon!
